Squeaky Clean

Happy Friday everyone!

Through many years of finding the right cleanser for my skin type i’ve gather some of my go-to/favourite products i’ve been repurchasing. And in continuation of “cleaning” I thought it would be nice to share some old and new goodies.

Honestly, this is probably my favorite time of the day…getting home from work/going out and just removing all the makeup and allowing my skin to breathe. I want a gentle but effective cleanser that I know will do the job without stripping away any of my natural oils.

Before I get started, I just wanted to stress that this is NOT a sponsored post as i’ll be linking a lot of the products in one source. It just so happens that i’ve purchased all these products from StyleKorean.

Now lets get into it…

So starting off with removing my makeup…

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

(Banila Co - Clean it Zero Resveratol;
two layers of eyeliner and two rounds of gentle scrubbing)

For the longest time i’ve been in love with Banila Co – Clean it Zero Resveratol. The texture was great, although the smell is a little too perfumey for my liking but overall it did the job. It didn’t clog my pores and it removed my waterproof makeup with ease.  A little goes a long way especially around the eye area, I didn’t need to agressively scrub away my mascara and eyeliner. Easily a 9/10 for me…it is a little on the pricey side with it being $20.00 USD sometimes on sale for $18.00 USD and within a year I would probably need to purchase 3 – 4 (which isn’t too bad but with the conversion rate it does get quite pricey)

(Heimish All Clean Balm; two layers of eyeliner and two rounds of gentle scrubbing)

An alternative that i’ve been hearing about was the Heimish All Clean Balm. You are probably thinking, the price is relatively the same with Heimish being a dollar less. BUT I don’t actually purchase the balm on it’s on only because StyleKorean offers the Heimish All Clean White Clay Foam and All Clean Balm in a set for only $25.23 USD. I love the both of this combined. The All Clean Balm works exactly the same as the Clean it Zero with the pro side of not being too perfumey. The texture is slightly different as you can tell from the picture above; it does solidify quickly into a wax like texture. I do find that along with it being not too perfumey, it also removes my eye makeup a lot easier without looking like a panda hahah.

(Heimish All Clean White Clay Foam)

Now onto the Heimish All Clean White Clay Foam. I love these two duos together. Right after removing my makeup I use the White Clay Foam as a cleanser. The texture is so gentle; my skin feels soft and clean without the feeling of my natural oils being stripped away. (that awful feeling of my skin cracking after cleansing) A few times i’ve gone in with a toner to see if it had removed all my makeup, and I can definitely say there was no residue.

(belif Creamy Cleansing Foam Moist)

Another cleanser i’ve have been enjoying is the belif Creamy Cleansing Foam Moist. I actually find this a similar to the Heimish All Clean White Clay Foam with the slight difference of it being thinner and lighter. This is now part of my morning skincare routine along with the whole line of belif products. I purchased this in a travel to go set just to test it out and right now it has worked for me. It leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished even after removing my makeup. The last few weeks i’ve noticed my skin texture feeling more plumped, brighter and healthier without the dullness. Belif products are actually available at The Face Shop in Canada.

(Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Scrub)

Now onto the last product…the scrub. It isn’t a korean brand only because I have yet to come across a facial scrub that I enjoy. I’ve been using Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating for years now and i’m hoping it does not get discontinued. Although I am not using this for the purpose of eliminating blackhead, I do enjoy using this once a week to do a full facial scrub, removing any inpurities and dead skin. It is quite lightweight with little beads that are not too abbressive for the skin.

I hope everyone had a great week! I know here in Toronto it has been and will be a soggy weekend, other then that have a great weekend, stay safe and dry!

Clean and Repair

The weather this past weekend was on point and I hope everyone had a great time!

In the midst of cleaning comes repair and the one thing I tend to neglect is my hair (that rhythms quite nicely hahah). From bleaching and coloring to blowing drying and straightening, and with the change in weather  it definitely puts a lot of stress on my hair. I go through phases where hair masks are a must once a week to no masks for months. This is definitely something I should keep up with.

I recently received my StyleKorean shipment and I had purchased a pack of five Cureit Protein Repair Cream. I was a little skeptical about another set of hair treatment when really you can DIY it. But honestly…to go out and purchase the ingredients and make the mask, it was not something I had the time for at the moment.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Upon reading the use of the Cureit Repair Cream, there are three ways to use this product.

  1. After shampooing – On damp hair, best part is no rinsing!
  2. During the day – when you feel like your hair is a little lifeless.
  3. Full on mask – after shampooing, a generously amount throughout the hair, leaving it for 10-15 minutes and rinse.

I’ve tried all three methods and I find this product absolutely amazing. It leaves my hair soft, smooth, shiny, tangle free and surprisingly my split ends are not as visible.

Texture: is the same as most regular cream like formulas. It is on the thicker side but given the fragrance is more subtle and not overwhelming.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Method 3 is what I intended as my main purpose for the Repair Cream.

The process starts after using a clarifying shampoo, I wanted to strip any oils and left over residue from my hair, giving it a clean canvas for the mask to be more effective. My hair was so dry after the Winter months and was desperately wanting a nourishing mask. It literally drank the formula and rinsing after 15 minutes my hair looked healthier and alive.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

At first I thought the product would be too thick for my hair as I have fine but very straight hair and a lot of it. But it was the right consistency and did not feel heavy or greasy afterwards. I do recommend starting with a little and proceeding to add as you may not need the whole tube, I definitely did not need the whole tube even with the amount of hair that I have; making the product last a lot longer. Like always a little goes a long way.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

There are tons of DIY hair masks out there online, and I have tried a few but this is a good alternative and the plus side to this; the formula contains castor oil. And we all know the benefits of castor oil which does wonders for hair, skin and nails.

Keep in mind, masks are just for the surface. To maintain healthy skin, hair and nails it all starts internally. Diet, vitamin intake, water intake…taking care of the body inside really reflects on the outside. And when you combine the two, the results are even better!

Have a great Monday everyone!!

From Dark to Light

Despite it being a bit gloomy, the weather this weekend stayed pretty warm and through the long weekend I was able to meet up/catch up with friends and family. With that in mind…it was time for a fresh look with Spring/Summer makeup.

Goodbye Winter makeup…

Processed with VSCO with preset

Personally I enjoy my winter makeup being on the darker shade. Generally my eyeliner is worn a little heavier/thicker, lighter mascara due to the heavier eyeliner and my blushes are darker as well as bronzer/highligher.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Of course there isn’t a set rule that you have to wear these particular shades only in the Winter. You can obviously wear these all year around and with these shades the work beautifully any skintone and outfits. For me I find that these shades work extremely well with my Winter attire due to wearing a lot heavier knits especially lighter colours and my very fair skintone (i’m a ghost in the Winter months hahah).

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Right: NARS Outlaw — Left: MAC Cheek & Cheerful

NARS Outlaw is a beautiful crimson red shade with a gold shimmer base just enough to bring out that healthy “I just walked out of the cold” glow. It is very pigmented, a little goes a long LONG way. Just a quick dab on the cheek is simply enough and if you do apply too much you can always blend it upwards as gradiant look.

MAC Cheek & Cheerful is a oldie but a goodie. I don’t think they sell this anymore and I know I had actually purchased this a while back. In reality I would say is more for summer but due to how pigmented this actually is I tend to use this a lot during winter months to give myself that healthier glow.

Now putting those aside…we welcome my Spring/Summer makeup.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Lighter on the eyeliner, a little heavier on the mascara though. Blush and highlighter are of course are at very light tone.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Lets start with contour. I love contouring during Spring/Summer, my hair is up often so the contouring comes into affect to shape and “define” what I do not have.

The Bronzer that i’ve been loving to use as contour is the Maybelline Master Bronze. It is matte base no shimmer formula. I’ve hit panel on this one and right now i’m looking into trying something new but like always I have a back up. It is kind of on a orangey tone but once you blend it in, it matches my skintone perfectly. AND sometimes all I do is contour, mascara and I am out the door.

Right: Maybelline Master Bronze — Left: Etude House Pink Beam

Highlight! Etude House Face Designing Brightener in Pink Beam Face. Absolutely love this! It is lightweight, not too much shimmer and the right consistency of the pink tone. Definitely when the light hits, you’ll see it! It works great under the brow bone, and in the corner of the inner eyes to waken those eyes.

Now onto the blushes…

Two blushes i’ve been reaching for right now is…

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher #6 Grapefruit Jelly

When I first got this as a gift, I thought to myself…this is not going to show on my skin. It is a pale pink with a very soft coral undertone. It almost looks as if it would be transparent. To my surprise…I use this almost everyday for work. It gives me that pinch of color, subtle and natural. It is buildable and does not require any blending.

BELLEME Soft Coral

I actually bought this at Cosrx while in Asia. Sadly, I dropped the blush I was using then…it shattered into a million pieces. Took the plunge and thought it is a beautiful coral color, no fragrance…it will do. This surpassed my expectations…the formula is so well made, it is pigmented so a little goes a long way and this works great as a transitional season color. Fall and Spring =)

I hope you guys found this helpful when looking into something to freshen up a look. Spring is all about new starts new looks new adventures a brand new upgraded you! Don’t ever change, always find ways to improve! Be true to yourself =) nothing beats the better version of you!

Spring Clean Out

In an addition to switching out makeup and wardrobe; another thing I love about Spring is switching up the interior of my room and that is exactly what I did this past weekend.

I cleaned, decluttered and re-arranged…basically reset the vibe and energy surrounding me on a day to day, night to night basis.

I would definitely say my bedroom is my sanctuary, it’s where I spend majority of my time from watching TV series, dramas, movies, listening to music, reading, day dreaming and creating content for my blog. This is the place where I reset for the next day.

In order me to keep my sanity I feed off constant change. By decluttering I am able to make room and clear out the unnecessary. Symbolically, you could say cleaning, clearing and organizing my life. If it doesn’t serve a purpose or bring you joy…get rid of it. If it passes through you negatively…either get rid of it or see the brighter side of things.

The Rolling Rack

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

You guys remember…the overly stuffed rolling rack with my SS’17 wardrobe

Now it’s done up as a shelving and shoe rack.

Although most of you would say a rolling rack should serve its purpose, but the ones who do own one knows the troublesome of maintaining it. Dust collects easily, if the rolling rack is close to a window you’ll know once the sun hits and through a period of time clothes will fade. When hanging clothes it needs to be weighted out perfectly on both side or one side would eventually sink.

I wanted to get rid of it.

As I sat there pondering how to get rid of it, ideas started to flood in. I didn’t need to throw it out, I could actually turn it into something useful and that would serve a purpose.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

First shelf was done as my grab and go…my keys were hung on the top, perfume, watch and ring then out the door. Bottom two shelves are dedicated to my Spring Summer shoes which are easily accessible to match my outfits.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I had these string lights hanging on my wall which did absolutely nothing and by stringing them onto the upper hanger I was able to give the rack a delicate look. With the different elements and colors, the lights reflected beautifully.

There are still a few tweaks I want to adjust but I can save that for another post! until then I hope this inspires you to change up your sanctuary.

A fresh look creates a fresh outlook. Have a great and safe long weekend everyone!

Spring Clean Out

Removing and Bringing back the Nudes

April showers brings May flowers! Again…a very gloomy Friday (by forecast). Toronto we have snow but Monday brings a high of 20 degrees hopefully =)

As we approach into Spring/Summer of 2017 all I can think of is bringing out my Spring/Summer collection and forgetting the cold freezing heavy jacket temperatures.

Fall/Winter Wardrobe Removing the Nudes

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Completely infatuated with lightweight materials, crop jeans, shorts and sandals…reminiscing the hot weather I couldn’t contain myself from switching out my Fall/Winter wardrobe to Spring/Summer a little too earlier judging by the weather forecast =( and realizing…I’ve just changed out of the same color palette just in different fabrics.

By looking into the color wheel of this coming season and shopping/window shopping at some of my favorite stores I’ve been able to pinpoint what I can possibly re-wear from the previous Spring/Summer attire that I already have without spending too much (who am I kidding hahaha) AND luckily, I am a complete plain Jane. White, black, navy, cream, beige, dark grey, light grey…do I need to go any further?? Plain! Basically I can re-wear everything!

Spring/Summer Wardrobe Bring back the Nudes
(I wasn't kidding when I said I was plain haha =P)

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Each season will always have it’s trend, but that doesn’t mean throwing out all the old. You can incorporate pieces of the trend with something you already have. For example, splashes of color and floral pieces seems to be the trend going into SS 17′.

To start the season of incorporating I decided to pick out two pieces that would be my “go-to” with not most of my outfits. My first punch of “color” purchase was from Zara; the basic collection is to die for. As you can see I’ve never been the person to leap daringly into fashion forward pieces and definitely isn’t a pink tone type of person.

Zara Long Blazer $69.90 CAD ; Zara Two-Tone Crossbody Bag $29.90

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

But I tried it on and fell in love with it instantly! Unfortunately, at that time they did not have my size. I ordered it online (free shipping over $50 CAD) along with a cross bag (it does come in two colors) which I know the picture doesn’t do it justice but it is the perfect example of color incorporation. It’s a simple navy bag but along the inside strap there is a contrasting sea foam green color giving it a bit of an edge AND it’s only $29.90.

Both pieces would look great together or individually with other outfits. Whether I am out and about or even just at work it’s simple enough to match without a second thought. You can definitely dress this up with a pair of heels; semi-casually with a pair of flats or simply casual with sneakers.

This is my first plunge into color and who knows what i’ll come across or how “daring” i’ll be…until then hope you guys had a great week and as well have great weekend coming up.

Removing and Bringing back the Nudes

Moving on from Winter

Happy Monday! Hope you are all having a great start to the week!

As we approach the warmer temperature of Spring we start to replace our Fall/Winter wardrobe with our Spring/Summer and with that we cannot neglect our skincare.

Toronto seems to be hitting it’s 10 plus degree weather and with that it is time to replace my Winter care that has kept my skin hydrated through the last 5 months.

And now two products that will be going into storage...

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Deep Cream 75mL $15.08 USD on StyleKorean.com & $14.30 USD on Jolse.com

This has definitely served it’s purpose by keeping my skin hydrated through the long cold 5 months as my skin tends to get very dry. Particulary around my forehead and cheek zones. Not only does it keep my skin hydrated it works great under my top 3 cushions (check out my Cushion Obsession post: Pony Effect, Moonshot Microfit and Iope Air).

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I do find that adding an extra layer of moisturizer causes some of the cushion formula to slide without it sticking, or even creasing around certain areas. Although with this product I don’t find that it creases or slides, but in a way it acts like a primer giving me a nice dewy finish. On days that I do have a little more time for my skincare and makeup routine I would allow the product to sit for about 5-8 minutes for full absorption before any makeup application.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

The benefit I found using this deep cream is that even at the end of the day after removing my makeup I found my skin feeling soft, firm and hydrated without any moisture being stripped away. Rating: 10/10

You can find this product at StyleKorean or Jolse

Dr. Jart Cicapair Cream 50mL $33.64 USD on StyleKorean.com

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I came across this cream while shopping at Dr. Jart+ in Garosugil. On that particular day it was cold and windy so I knew…this is not good, my skin is going to crack!

After our main purchase I actually received this as as small sample and immediately after returning back to the hotel I applied this on my cheeks and forehead…it was an instance relief. And from then I found myself reaching for this and applying only on specific areas that I needed it the most.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

The texture isn’t as thick as the Etude House Deep Cream but the formula definitely soothes any irritation to the skin letting my skin calm down and allowing a smoother canvas for makeup application. Rating: 10/10

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

As you can tell I still have a little less then half the tube to finish but I will definitely be purchasing this full size for the coming Winter of 2017.

As for this product I was only able to find this product on StyleKorean

Overall

I’ve been loving these two products. I like that I can use these products during the day or even incorporating this into my evening routine. They both serve there purpose in the way that I would use them. Price isn’t too crazy especially for Etude House…that jar is huge.

There are probably a ton more products I could adventure into or that will be new to the market and who knows what i’ll come across in the next few months but as of now these two products have made it onto my list of must-haves!

Hope you guys enjoyed this skincare post! Have a great week =)

Moving on from Winter

Cushion Obsession

It’s a rainy, gloomy, soggy Friday evening… and what better way to end the night with a little post about some of my favourite BB/CC cushions.

Confession: I have to admit…I do purchase cushions merely based on the packaging or based on a celebrity endorsement even though it is not the right colour shade for me. BUT do keep reading, as I will reveal what I do with the shades that are not the right fit.

2017-03-29 07.29.00 1-1

Above are the cushions i’ve collected in the last year or so and have repurchased a few times. And through the year or so in my opinion only three are worth looking into.

All of these brand cushions come with the cushion housing, a sponge, the cushion itself and a refill of the same shade. Each cushion has their own benefits whether brightening, hydrodration, anti-aging or simply just a coverage.

——————————————–

(**I will not be including prices as every website have different price points, either on sale or regular price. As well the ratings a merely based on my own opinion, it will definitely differ with everyone**)

A little background on my skin tone; I am normally between a N21 to N23 – Nude or Natural Beige. Given i’m white as a ghost during the Winter months and slightly (and I mean 1-3%) darker during the Summer months.

Starting off with ....

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control – SPF 50+ PA+++ No. 21 Natural Beige

  • I have a love-hate relationship with this particular cushion as I can only use this during Spring and Fall months. In the Winter I find the formula starts to flake off even with an extra layer of moisturizer underneath vs in the Summer months it starts to melt and create lines especially around my smile lines. Rating: 7.5/10

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Laneige BB Cushion_Whitening Milkyway Fantasy Holiday Edition – SPF 50+ PA+++ No. 13

  • I actually have not started using the product yet. As you can tell I purchased this cushion because of the packaging and Holiday Edition. This is not the right shade for me as the colour I normally use was out of stock then. Simply said, this was just for aesthic reasoning. No rating.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Moonshot Microfit Cushion (Black) – SPF 50+ PA+++ 101

  • Known as the GD cushion this was no disappointment besides from purchasing the wrong shade (SMH). A little background about Moonshot; it is a cosmetic brand by YG Entertainment which was the main reasoning behind all its hype. But I have to admit the hype was worth it! The cushion has a nice feel to it, it is dewy and has a water base forumla which I do not mind at all. With all that said, I did mention that I had purchased the wrong shade…101 is too light for me but I made it work by using it as my under eye brightener. It works in my favor, it conceals my dark circles and brightens using only one product vs when I was using two products. Rating: 9/10

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Moonshot Face Perfection Balm Cushion (Beige) – SPF 50+ PA+++ 201

  • No disappointment at all. I had actually recieve a small sample of this before purchasing. This is a true match to my skin tone, the formula has improved from the Microfit cushion making the coverage a bit thicker but with almost an airy feel to it. Rating: 10/10

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Iope Air Cushion XP Broad Spectrum – SPF 50+ PA+++ N23 Ice Beige

  • This is my first ever cushion, it is also the pioneer of all cushions out on the market right now. I did a lot of research before purchasing any cushions as I did not want to be disappointed after my first try. And let me tell you, this cushion did not disappoint and will always be my repurchase and safe choice. The colour is on point and has a very nice dewy finish. It keeps my skin hydrated even through the winter months and doesn’t make me look oily through the summer months. Rating: 10/10

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Pony Effect Everlasting Cushion Foundation – SPF 50+ PA+++ Nude Beige

  • Watching a few Youtubers in Seoul using this cushion really made me want to try it. I love Ponys makeup tutorials looks already…so why not take the plunge and try it. To my surprise I absolutely fell in love with this cushion; it gives a flawless naturally look. The feel of the formula is light and coverage is just enough that you can keep building although a little does go a long way. The colour match is perfect, on point; the finish is dewy but not too much to the point that it makes you look oily. AND that packaging…it’s square, rose gold…what more can I say. Rating: 10/10
In conclusion (I feel like i'm writing an essay...)

At this point in time these are my go-tos…surprise surprise haha

2017-03-29 07.28.58 1-1

I think finding the right cushion takes a lot of research, money to try and patiences. It’s not a “i’ll purchase this because everyone likes it” noooo that is not the case and definitely was not the case for me at all. I had to try for weeks, with through all the seasons and it took me a fair while to sum up the ones that I really enjoyed using and knew that I would repurchase again.

For those of you adventuring off to the world of cushions…there will always be new cushions out there with new and improve formulas. Don’t hesist to keep trying new ones, putting off the old ones and going back to them just so you know and compare. One thing I would suggest is looking for cushions that are easily accessible online or at any local stores…you will never know what you’ll fall in love with.

Hope you guys have a great and safe weekend =)
